Olivia Stands for Truth and Right

I just wanted to share this little story about my Olivia. She is in 3rd grade and is finding out that school is not always fun and games. This past week there was an "incident". A boy accidentally took his pencil to gym class so the coach asked him to place it on the stage until after gym. When he went to get it after class, it was gone. So the coach told Olivia's teacher (Mrs. Montgomery) who decided to make the entire class miss recess until the pencil was found. To me this is just crazy, right? I know there are two sides to every story, so I keep telling myself that there HAS to be more to it. Anyway, there was another boy who HAD a pencil just like the one that the boy had lost except it was not sharpened so they knew it wasn't the boy's pencil. Behind the teacher's back, some of the kids schemed that they would just tell Mrs. Montgomery that they found the pencil so they could go to recess. Olivia said, "NO guys, that's not his pencil so we are NOT going to do that. It would be lying." She didn't say, "Ya know, we really shouldn't do that." She said, "We are NOT going to do that." I was just proud of her for standing up for what was right (even if I do feel that the teacher was being unreasonable-and so did Olivia.) The pencil was not found so they missed their entire recess. I know it is not always easy to speak up and do the right thing especially when you are outnumbered so I appreciate that she did that. She is a special little lady!
